A film-tested Leicaflex camera with Leitz Wetzler Summicron-R 50mm f2 1 cam lens.

This is a classic camera in very nice shape. As I understand it, the Leicaflex was Leica's first 35mm single lens reflex camera. It's a heavy, mechanical, metal camera that feels great in the hand.

The camera is in good cosmetic condition with a little normal wear. No dings or scratches that I can see -- just a little paint wear and brassing on the back of the camera.

The lens is a coveted Leitz Wetzler Summicron-R 50mm f2 in very nice shape with no dings or scratches. When I shine light through from behind, I can see some dust and haze in the lens, but I didn't see any effect on images in my test roll (although I did not shoot directly into the sun or other light sources). The lens is an earlier 1 cam lens, meaning if you use it with a later Leica-R camera, you have to meter in stop-down mode. But it meters normally on the Leicaflex.

The lens comes with a lens shade (pictured) and a lens cap (not pictured, but included). The lens also has a retaining ring and a Leitz Wetzler Series VI UVa filter.

The light meter works! Using a modern alkaline battery, it's just a half stop off from my Canon New F-1 that I use to compare meters to (giving me f2.8/4 instead of f4, for example). The little window on the front right of the camera is the light meter sensor - it's not a through-the-lens meter. But the display in the camera features a needle that lets you set exposure without lowering the camera from your eye.

I film tested this camera in December 2022 -- see the black and white photo for a sample of what I got. I saw some scratches on some frames on the test roll, but they didn't stretch through the roll and I believe they came from the bulk rolling process for the film and not from the camera body.

I haven't tested the camera with a flash.

Battery not included.

Some vintage camera lenses were manufactured with thorium, which makes them slightly radioactive. Unless otherwise noted in the item description, to the best of our knowledge, the lenses sold through this store were not made with thorium. But since manufacturers have not released comprehensive lists of lenses with thorium, we cannot guarantee any lenses are thorium free. Customers should educate themselves and make their own decisions before purchasing.

I've never seen anyone report the lens sold with this camera as a thoriated lens. But again, we cannot guarantee any lenses are thorium free. Customers should educate themselves and make their own decisions before purchasing.
