The Alphasmart Neo is an awesome writing machine with a tremendously good keyboard. When working, it allows you to type for literally hundreds of hours on one set of batteries. It doesn't have an internet connection; it doesn't have a bunch of different programs. It's just an incredible keyboard with a simple word processing program and an LCD screen. I love it!

But this model is BROKEN and is being sold for parts. I'm not sure what's wrong with it -- I've used the screen by itself on a different Neo and the screen works on that different Neo, so there's something going on with this model's main circuit board or the way the batteries connect to the thing. As you can see in the photos, there's some discoloration from soldering at different points around the circuit board. If I remember right, when I first got this machine, it had some random wiring soldered around its edges. I called the Alphasmart people at the time and they said that that kind of wiring was not standard and shouldn't be there. I don't remember, but apparently I removed it. I don't remember if the machine ever worked, so I don't know if that wiring was some kind of repair job or not.

All that being said, this would be a GREAT machine to steal parts from if you have a Neo with broken keys or a missing battery door. Or maybe you're a tech whiz and can fix it! There are no screws in the machine, unfortunately. But I'm selling it super cheap just in hopes of getting it to someone who can use it and keeping things out of landfill.
